And then there was a tooth ...
Ryland's first tooth has officially broken through. He has been fussy the past few days and we had a feeling that he was teething and now we have confirmation ... His lower front right tooth is here!

6 Year Anniversary
Tab and I had a great 6 year anniversary on Saturday. Jerry and Sharon kept Ryland while we went to a nice and romantic dinner at The Capitol Grill. Tab surprised me when we got there with a beautiful arrangement of 6 calla lilies (for 6 years) on the table. The restaurant staff was great and they even took 4 of the calla lilies out of the arrangement before we got there because they knew that Tab ordered 6 and it was delivered with 10.
I have the best husband and love him and our little family of 3!!

Update
2 weeks after we got the news that Ryland's ear infection was cleared up I am happy to say that Ryland is back to his normal sleeping routine. No more 4am wake up calls .... we actually have been waking him up in the morning to feed him before I leave for work. Keep your fingers crossed that this continues!!
We also had our first experience with Ryland knowing exactly what he wanted to eat. We have been feeding him prunes to get some extra fiber in his diet. Dr Loventhal told us that pears were also good for this so we decided to get a jar of pears to try it out. I fed him pears and then started feeding him his oatmeal (which he typically loves) and he started screaming. So I went back to the pears and he immediately stopped and wanted to eat. I went back and forth a couple of times and then caved in and just finished giving him the pears and skipped the oatmeal. Note to self ... always start with the bland stuff first and then save the sweet tasting foods to last.
Ryland is also still in love with sitting up. He tries to sit up all the time .... in his bouncy seat, in his car seat, in your arms, when you lay him down. I have a feeling that he is going to master this soon.
Things Ryland loves right now ...
playing peek-a-boo
watching Codi and Bailey
sitting up and standing up
laughing
blowing bubbles
grabbing stuff and holding on

5 Month Check Up
Ryland had his ear infection follow up appt on Friday May 14th which was perfect timing since he was officially 5 months old on May 16th. The Dr appt went great and for the most part both of his ear infections were gone ... he still had a little fluid in his left ear but Dr Loventhal said that it should clear up on its own and no need to start another prescription.
Weight = 14lbs 14 ozs
Height = 25 3/4 inches
Both of these are in the 50th percentile. I think his height measurement was off at his 4 month check up.
I can tell a HUGE difference in his sleeping lately. Which is confirmation that his ear infections are really gone. He slept until 7am this morning. And LOVES sleeping on his stomach.
Tab and I had the CCA banquet last night so dad and grandmother came out to babysit. Ryland was asleep in his crib on his stomach when we got home. We both went in his nursery to say good night and rubbed his back for a little bit. He looked so cute and peaceful ... it was hard for us to not pick him up to kiss on him. Instead Tab held my feet while I leaned over the side of the crib to kiss him :)
And Ryland is determined to sit up. He has been working really hard it lately. When we put him in his bouncey chair he tries his hardest to sit up so I have a feeling that we will not be able to use it for much longer.

Friday May 14th
I cannot believe that we are 2 days away from Ryland being 5 months old!! Where have the last 5 months gone? 5 months ago today it was my next to last day at work - Dec 14th. I was working from home (instead of going into the office) because wearing comfortable workout clothes was the best since I was 9 months pregnant! Tab and I were making the last additions to our hospital bags. And I was cleaning the house so that when we came back from the hospital we got to come home to a clean house. I had my last prenatal doctor appt with Dr Sun that morning and we got the official word that we were on the "induction call list" at Northside and that someone would be calling us any time after 3pm on Tuesday Dec 15th. We were both so excited and surprisingly I was not nervous at all. The nerves did not really come into play until the following night when we had to make the decision to have a c-section and they wheeled in the epidural cart and the anesthesiologist that walked in could not have been over 35 years old :)
We have Ryland's ear infection follow up appt with Dr Loventhal this afternoon. I really think that his ear infection has gotten better because he is sleeping longer at night and is cough is completely gone. Keep your fingers crossed for a good report from Dr. Loventhal!
On a side note ... when we went into Ryland's room this morning to get him up he was on his stomach with his entire left leg hanging through one of the slats in his crib! It took a couple of seconds for me to get his leg out so I doubt he would have been able to do it himself. I wonder how we can keep that from happening again ....

The Week of Firsts ...
This week started off with Ryland learning how to blow bubbles. And now he has learned how to roll from his back to his stomach! The first time that he did it was 2 nights ago. We were watching him on the monitor and then all of a sudden we realized that he was face down in his crib. So of course I run in there to make sure that everything is ok and flip him back over. Well once they learn how to do this there is no stopping them. He was back on his stomach before we knew it and back asleep! Last night he slept on his side the entire night and rolled to his stomach this morning right before he woke up. Now when I see him sleeping he looks so grown up. It is not the "newborn sleeping position" anymore :( Where did the last 4 1/2 months go.

Ryland's New Trick
Ryland has discovered that he can blow air out of his lips to make a noise and blow bubbles. And he LOVES doing it!! He started doing this over the weekend and it is now his new favorite thing to do. And he really likes it when he has a lot of drool on his lips and in his mouth!!

2 Week Check Up on Ear Infection
Ryland had his follow up appointment on Friday April 30th for his ear infection. We found out that the medicine that he was on did nothing and now he had a double ear infection. We left with a prescription for a different antibiotic. Hopefully this one will work and he will be all clear soon. The good news is that he is not acting like he feels bad. He just has a really bad cough and is still waking up in the middle of the night.
The good thing about going to the Dr is that we get to check his weight. He now weighs 14 lbs 3 oz!!
Here is a picture of Ryland at the Dr's office right before Dr Loventhal came in. This was the first time that he has put his knees under himself while laying on his stomach ... that is the next step to crawling!! I did not have my camera out at first so I missed the best time to take a picture but I still got this one ...
